Day 4: Starting the conversation

This is the 4th day of my 100 days English diary challenge.

Today was the last day of my 3 days holiday and It made me sad a little. (But now, it is almost Monday morning, I'm not certain I can work tomorrow.)

"Starting a conversation for the first time" must be a common topic in English class, but I always hesitate to ask in common phrases. And some teachers teach me different thing like "We can't say that" and "You say the wrong question but many Japanese people does". So, today I would like to make a list of questions that we use for starting a conversation with a person who meets for the first time. In fact, people won't ask each other their favorite possession or their height. ^^;

common questions
  • Where are you from? / Where do you come from?(ご出身は? goshussin ha?)
  • Which part of England are you from?(イングランドのどの地域からいらしたのですか? * England no donochiiki-kara irashita no desu ka?)

  • Which course are you taking? (どのコースを選択していますか? Dono kohsu wo sentaku shite imasu ka?)
